Yesterday I went to my pani puri wala for some yummy pani puri - that is my soul food. He is a very chatty guy with me and was sharing his problems - how a guy came and asked for monthly 6000 rupees as Hafta for his stall - he said he cant afford it and then the guy said he will then stop his stall - I asked the pani puri wala did cops do that to him in past - he told me cops never bothered with him coz they know how little he earns. So the only solution I could give was talk to a cop about this harassment and ask him for a solution and take a picture of the guy who harassed him. He agreed to all I said but then he told me, "Madam koi pada likha insaan mil jata jo khada ho kar usse baat kar pata tou phir kaam ho jata"
At that point I asked him what time does the pretend cop come - he said 11pm- I thought I empathise with this person but I cant come at 11 pm to stand at the pani puri stall - so lip service is all I could give him.
Sometimes you want to do the right thing but you choose not to as it inconvenient for you and then you bear the guilt of not doing it - or at least that's me - Overthinking and Empathetic without actions many times. So maybe a passive empath in that case- or an agony aunt.
